Over the weekend, Open Road Press officially released two paperbacks to the market with another release upcoming in a month. Thanks to its new distributorship through Small Press United, a division of Independent Publishers Group, titles previously published only in e-book format have been formatted for print and set up on a print-on-demand basis.
The first such title, Metaphors in Motion: Wisdom from the Open Road by Tim and Debbie Bishop, contains eight lessons included in the original manuscript for the award-winning Wheels of Wisdom. They were removed before publication to eliminate redundancy and create more breathing room in the larger life lessons book. Nevertheless, readers will benefit from the newer offering, which works well as a Sunday-to-Sunday “weeklong devotional from the seat of a bicycle.”
The print edition of Metaphors in Motion includes more photos than the e-book version plus a dedication to the kindness of people everywhere who go out of their way to help bicycle tourists. Tom Nenadal, the author of the book’s foreword, exemplified this selfless kindness when the Bishops entered his bicycle shop in Marshall, Missouri, on September 9, 2014. He not only repaired their brakes in a timely fashion but also helped the Bishops avoid an upcoming bridge outage on their route by placing a couple of phone calls on their behalf. Tom recently passed away from cancer, and the Bishops have acknowledged him on the dedication page of their latest paperback.
Originally published in 2016, the Metaphors in Motion paperback officially released to market on June 1, 2019 at a retail price of $5.99. It is available wherever books are sold in the United States and Canada.
Simultaneously, Open Road Press has released in print Bicycle Touring How-To: What We Learned by Tim and Debbie Bishop. “How-To” has been a useful resource to bicycle tourists since 2013, when it was released in e-book format alongside Two Are Better: Midlife Newlyweds Bicycle Coast to Coast.
The Bicycle Touring How-To paperback officially released to the marketplace on June 1, 2019 at a retail price of $7.99. It is available wherever books are sold in the United States and Canada.
