July 15, Day 13 of TheHopeLine Tour of 2014
After a rest day in Baker City, Oregon, we ventured out in search of Idaho. Before we arrived, however, we were awestruck by the unusual terrain we were to encounter as we departed the city. We climbed to an overlook of a fertile farming area that would provide a misleading cue for the miles ahead. We soon found ourselves back in the desert, but with spectacular vistas across and through the hills. I’ve shared some photos to provide you with a glimpse.
A 40-mile downhill ride with a tailwind to Richland made for fast and easy travel. We were flying after our rest day. After lunch in Richland, a friendly little town in an attractive setting, we climbed one long, challenging hill, and then descended into Hells Canyon. Our climb was highlighted by views of suede hills, as the clouds shielded the sun on certain parts of the hills, casting a unique sheen that screamed for a camera. We had two.
Toward the end of our ride, a campsite beside the Snake River operated by Idaho Power Company insured we would soon be in Idaho. We moved in for the night.
Hey Tim and Deb,
Just like Willie Nelson “ON THE ROAD AGAIN, I JUST CAN’T WAIT TO GET ON THE ROAD AGAIN”. Some beautiful pics, my friends. Oregon is just some gorgeous country. Had to really laugh at the description of getting out “Big Agnes”. I can almost hear Tim grumbling all the way back here in good old Maine. Got caught up to your latest post, and now looking forward to continuing updates. Good traveling, old friend…Jim
Great to have you along for the ride, Jim.
